Suzzanne: We're already live, by the way.
Suzzanne: I just put him into the spot. 'Cause hey, we're live. I'm going to tell you a little story about how I met Scott. Scott and I, this is the first time we've met in real life, a couple days ago. Before then, we actually met online called Whale app, which is a social media Q & A style app.
Scott: Yes. Right.
Suzzanne: The funny thing is, that's how life should be. You can virtually meet everyone online these days, and connect in real life. You don't have to have a relationship. Internet has made it possible.
Scott: Yes. Absolutely. In Myspace I've met my tribe primarily through twitter and askwhale and I'm actually meeting wonderful people in San Francisco who I'm actually starting to do more business with, and the opportunities are no longer limited to your geographical region. Think outside the box. If you've got an internet connexion, you can go global from day one.
Suzzanne: Even make money on day one, if you know how to [inaudible 00:01:09]. Do you know that Scott Rogers is an angel investor, but more than that I really like his digital nomad lifestyle.
Scott: Yes. I do a number of things. I am a retired software engineer. I did follow my parent's advice early on. I went to university, got a safe job, and all of that. But then the world changed. Internet came in 1995. I started to see opportunities, and I was lucky enough to be able to apply that. I got my Masters of IT, became a software engineer, worked in corporate world for about 10 years.
Suzzanne: Did you like it?
Scott: No. I hated being in the cubicles.
Suzzanne: Why were you there for 10 years?
Scott: In that time I was lucky enough to one, invest in Apple and two, pay off my house in West Inn. Once I had financial security for myself and my family, I could actually take the risk, jump out of the corporate world, and start doing things that I enjoyed.
Suzzanne: Where do you use that?
Scott: At the moment, I like being a digital nomad, which is the opposite to working in the safe office job. I've just spent one month in Bali in a co-living space, and I was amazed at the young people like [Susanne 00:02:34] here, who are out there with their online businesses and travelling the world. Anything is possible.
Suzzanne: You just need internet.
Scott: You need internet.
Suzzanne: You need a social presence, I have to admit.
Scott: Yes. You build your social presence.
Scott: And you will be surprised at the amount of support you'll get. One month living in Bali I've connected with all of these entrepreneurs and digital nomads in Ubud, Bali, and we are in a Facebook group now, and we're all supporting each other for business.
Suzzanne: That's amazing. If anything, I feel like we need to emphasise that being a digital nomad, you don't have to be a nine to five, you don't have to do university, you can actually start doing a business tomorrow if you want to, and just test it out.
Scott: Yes. We met [Macker 00:03:22] from the Sunshine post last night. The young kid with the curly hair. He's also on askwhale. He met me on askwhale, and he came up to me on the opening night of [Myriad 00:03:35] and said, "Scott, I want to meet you. Thanks for that advice you gave me on askwhale. You liked my post. Let's have a beer." I am supporting him and his VR projects on Sunshine post.
Suzzanne: Can I ask you, what is your favourite beach?
Scott: Favourite beach. It's a little bit hard. I like Noosa, north facing beach. Wategos Beach at Byron Bay, north facing beach. I'm a Townsville boy, North Queensland there some secret features on Magnetic Island.
Suzzanne: A secret beach called Magnetic Island. I'll have to check that out.
Scott: On Magnetic Island. Some of the bays at Magnetic Island that I went to as a kid. Pretty magical.
Suzzanne: Amazing. Thank you so much for sitting down with me and having a conversation with me. I'm so glad I got to meet you in real life is all.
